Reader’s Theater allows people the opportunity to tiptoe into theater. Whether it’s a matter of confidence, time commitment, memorization, or lack of experience, Reader’s Theater is a low impact way to try theater. The actors get to hold the script and there is no pressure to memorize. The class focuses on characterization, voice, pacing and emphasis, as well as script dissection. Actors will have the chance to play different roles and explore a variety of scripts and genres, including unpublished local playwright material. Open to ages 10 and older (younger participants should be able to read well enough to keep up with others in the group).
Reader's Theater is made possible through a partnership between the Library and Little Traverse Civic Theater. Sessions are led by LTCT's Ellen Blanchard. Participants sign up at the beginning of each month and then meet twice a week on Wednesdays (5-6:30pm) and Saturdays (1-3pm) at the Carnegie Building or occasionally in the Library's classroom when the Carnegie is not available. Depending on the number/ages of those registering, the group will choose a script in the first week then practice for the rest of the month before holding a "performance" at the end of the month.
