Reader’s Theater allows people the opportunity to tiptoe into theater. Whether it’s a matter of confidence, time commitment, memorization, or lack of experience, Reader’s Theater is a low impact way to try theater. The actors get to hold the script and there is no pressure to memorize. The class focuses on characterization, voice, pacing and emphasis, as well as script dissection. Actors will have the chance to play different roles and explore a variety of scripts and genres, including unpublished local playwright material. Open to ages 10 and older (younger participants should be able to read well enough to keep up with others in the group).
Reader's Theater is made possible through a partnership between the Library and Little Traverse Civic Theater. Sessions are led by LTCT's Ellen Blanchard. Those participating sign-up at the beginning of each month and then meet twice a week on Wednesdays (5-6:30pm) and Saturdays (1-3pm) at the Carnegie Building or occasionally in the Library's classroom when the Carnegie is not available. Depending on the number/ages of those registering, the group will choose a script in the first week then practice for the rest of the month before holding a "performance" at the end of the month.
6:30 PM| Zoom meeting only

APRIL 3 SESSION - NATO’s Future" by Sarwar Kashmeri
Description - Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has come under increased scrutiny, not because NATO troops are involved in the conflict, but because of its role in relations between Russia and its neighbors. Will expanding membership in NATO protect countries, or will it further provoke Russia?
Joining our discussion for the April 3 session will be Natalie Melnyczuk.
Ms. Melnyczuk’s professional experience includes working as NATO Representative to Ukraine as the Head of the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Kyiv, Ukraine; as a Political Officer in the Political Affairs and Security Policy Division, Euro-Atlantic Partnership Section at NATO HQ in Brussels, Belgium; as Manager of U.S.A.I.D.’s Parliamentary Development Project, U.S. – Ukraine Foundation, in Kyiv, Ukraine; in Research Analysis at RFE/RL, Munich, Germany; in Research at The United States Institute of Peace, Washington, D.C.; at Chicago Research and Trading, Management Partnerships International on the first American-Soviet high tech Joint Venture; at Heartland International, Chicago, Il., on parliamentary reform and democratization in Africa; and in various other academic/policy positions. She is a consultant on Euro-Atlantic Security, a lecturer at Wayne State University, and a Doctoral Candidate in Political Science at Wayne State University where her research focuses on Euro-Atlantic Security, aspects of asymmetric warfare, and coming to a new understanding of Alliances.

There is nothing like a solar eclipse to inspire the wonder and awe of our place in the universe! We are excited to share this experience with our community. The eclipse begins at 1:59pm, maximum coverage is at 3:13pm, and the eclipse ends at 4:25pm. Eclipse viewing glasses will be available at the teen desk starting Monday, April 1st and will be available the day of the eclipse at the main circulation desk.
While here, you can view the eclipse with eclipse glasses or check it out with our telescope (don't worry, it'll have a solar filter!). We will also have activities throughout for all ages to learn about and enjoy the eclipse.
We are definitely hoping for clear skies, but if the clouds get in the way, no worries! We will have the NASA livestream of the eclipse in two indoor areas: the periodical room on the first floor (by the front doors) and the lower level teen area/makerspace.
If you have any questions, please contact Nisa Kesseler (NASA partner eclipse ambassador and Teen Librarian) at 231-758-3113 or nkesseler@petoskeylibrary.org.
