Bring your sewing machine, all of its accessories and materials and join instructor Tina VanDenburg for her sewing workshop on December 2 from 10:00am to 4:45pm. You're welcome to bring your own lunch for this all-day sewing class. Class is limited. Click here to register. For the December 2 class, Tina will help you sew a fit-and-flare knit dress. The following Saturday, Dec. 9, she'll hold another workshop on sewing yoga-style knit pants with pockets.
(NOTE: the description in the Library's winter newsletter incorrectly stated that materials would be provided. Though the class is free, those participating will be required to bring their own materials.)
December 2 Sewing Workshop Description (Fit and Flare Knit Dress):
In this class, we will take a pattern for a simple knit dress (with a fitted bodice, sleeves and an a-line skirt) and adjust it to fit your unique body and style. Then we'll cut it out and sew it up...all in time for dinner! You'll go home with your new knit dress and a pattern to make more. We'll work on adjusting a sewing pattern, dress construction and sewing knits with a basic machine. Beginner friendly, Tina asks only that you know how to use a sewing machine and can sew an effective seam. All garments will be made with easy-to-fit and comfortable, knit fabric.
Participants for the garment sewing classes need to bring the following materials with them to the December 2 workshop:

Pants, pants, pants! Not cut-into-you-after-a-big-meal pants, but soft and comfortable yoga-style pants. Now don't let the name fool you, these pants can be very casual or office ready all depending on the type of fabric you choose.
In the Dec. 9 class, we'll learn how to choose your size on the pattern and adjust the pattern to your unique body and shape. We'll then cut out our pants and sew them up! You'll walk away with a pair of pants that feature a waistband, optional pockets - both front cutaway pockets and back patch pockets - and a front leg pattern piece that is slimmer than the rear leg pattern piece for a more flattering fit. Beginner friendly, Tina asks only that you know how to use a sewing machine and can sew an effective seam. All garments will be made with easy-to-fit and comfortable, knit fabric.
